  • Graze
    • A Gastropub with everything local-sourced. It offers great views of the Capital Square through a 50 ft glass panorama with really cool interior design elements. Try the burger and fries! Also be sure to share the fresh deep fried cheese curds. If possible, try to hit it slightly off peak dining hours. Madison is really buzzing about this one!

    • A youthful gem and amazingly consistent, friendly and efficient. The Greek Burger is my favorite burger in Madison.

  • Sardine
    • Outstanding food! Fine dining near the Capital Square on the lake. It can be noisy so it can be difficult for large groups.

Memorial Union Brat Stand

    • Great food and spectacular array of local beers many on tap and many more in bottles. You will likely need to wait, but I think it is worth it.

  • Memorial Union Terrace Brat Stand
    • It is my favorite summer food venue, not so much for the food, which is just fine, but you can't beat the energy and the view.

  • Graze
    • I'll second, third, fourth the recommendations. I like it's sister restaurant L'Etoile, too, but it's ratchets up the price a bit.
  • Marigold Kitchen
    • For breakfast and lunch. On Saturday and Sunday the duck confit hash is the choice for non-vegetarians.

Natt Spil
  • Cooper's Tavern
    • This is the newer of the two Irish pubs/restaurants on the square and it's my favorite. Their reuben, which has cured in-house corned beef, is to die for. If you pair this with one of the many beers on tap, you'll be in heaven. See review on Yelp!
  • Natt Spil
    • Madison's hidden secret. You'll find the Natt Spil on King Street tucked behind the Great Dane. I highly recommend one of their wood-fired oven pizzas or my staple, the Three Cup Chicken. The atmosphere is a little cozy, but definitely worth it. See review on Yelp!

Catherine (all are right around the Square)

  • Underground Kitchen
    • Go during the week and arrive early, as this new urban hot spot is a big draw for local Madison foodies. Spacious dining, and great bar.
